Welcome Back! Look What We've Been Up To!

Welcome back to school and art class at JRB! We have had a very productive first month and are excited to start our second rotation. Here is what students in grades 1-5 completed during rotation 1:

Grade 1:
Students learned about line direction including vertical, horizontal, and diagonal lines. They then created a drawing with a nature theme using these three as well as curved lines. Their ideas were quite imaginative!

.

Grade 2:
Students learned about organic and geometric shapes. We read the book The Monster Who Lost His Mean by Tiffany Haber and created either "Onsters" or monsters out of shapes.

Grade 3:
Students learned how to use geometric shapes as the basis for realistic drawings. They were challenged to make an entire drawing using only geometric shapes.

Grade 4:
Positive and negative space was the focus for students in grade 4. They learned about the Japanese art form, Notan, and created their own.

Grade 5:
Mandalas helped students to learn about the concept of radial symmetry. They created designs that depicted aspects of themselves.
